In this article, we will explain about warm fleece and boa fabrics that are recommended for the coming autumn and winter.
What is fleece fabric?
Fleece is a fabric that is becoming a staple in winter wear. It is now used in many everyday items such as hoodies, outerwear, the inside of pants, blankets, and loungewear.
Fleece fabric is a brushed fabric made from synthetic materials such as polyester.
By brushing the surface, the fabric becomes fluffy and soft to the touch.
Recently, fleece made from recycled polyester and environmentally friendly fleece made from biodegradable polyester yarn have also appeared.
The benefits of fleece fabric
What is warmth? It is said that the warmth comes from the inclusion of a layer of air.
Air is the best insulator, so this layer of air keeps out the cold.
The fluffy brushed part of fleece fabric creates a layer of air between the fibers, trapping heat from the body and keeping you warm.
It also blocks out cold air from the outside.
It retains heat while being breathable, so it dries quickly even if you sweat; and it dries quickly even after washing, which is a nice feature.
Fleece is also lightweight and easy to carry, so it is often used as trekking wear for mountain climbing.
Disadvantages of fleece fabric
While fleece fabric is light and quick-drying, it has the disadvantage of being “airy.”
Due to the breathability and airiness, when a strong wind blows, the wind goes through and you can feel cold.
Therefore, it is recommended to use fleece items in combination with windproof outerwear.
Another disadvantage is that it is weak to friction and prone to pilling, so when washing, it is best to put it in a laundry net and wash it on the “gentle cycle”.
Recommended fleece fabric
We would like to introduce some recommended fabrics featured on ApparelX.

This fleece has been treated with anti-pilling to prevent pilling, a drawback of fleece.
It comes in a wide range of colors, from neutral basics to vibrant, fun colors.

It’s a melange fleece, so the colors blend together to create a sense of depth.
Fleece tends to look sporty, but this melange fleece gives it a neater look.

By weaving highly abrasion-resistant Cordura into the fleece, we have created a fabric that is highly resistant to friction.

This fleece features a botanical pattern by Kitataka, who is good at printing fabrics. The plant pattern has a painterly touch and is lovely.
It’s sure to be an eye-catching item whether used all over or just partly.
What is boa fabric?
Boa fabric is similar to fleece, but it is a fluffier fabric that resembles sheep’s wool, hence typically called “sheep boa”
The word “boa” comes from giant snake from South America.
You might think that giant snakes aren’t fluffy at all, but the name comes from the fact that noblewomen with long fur (boa) scarves wrapped around their necks looked like they were wrapping a giant snake around their necks.
Characteristics of boa fabric
The biggest feature of boa fabric is that the fur on the surface is curled.
This gives it more volume and fluffiness than straight fur.
Curled fur is called “boa” and straight fur is called “fur.”
They are similar but not the same.
The benefits of boa fabric
– First of all, boa fabric has excellent heat retention properties because the curled fur traps the air emitted from the body.
・Although it looks voluminous, the total weight is not that heavy because the hair is curled.
・Another good point about boa fabric is that it is fluffy and soft to the touch. It can be used not only for apparel products such as outerwear, but also for blankets.
