Cupro Fabric Beyond the AK Series — Spotlight on Sunwell Options
When people think of cupro (also known by the brand name Bemberg®), the AK series might be the first to come to mind. But did you know there are other great cupro-blended fabrics available, such as those from Sunwell?
One fabric we’ve consistently seen demand for over the past two years is 42265, but recently, we’ve noticed a spike in interest for 41256. That prompted us to take a closer look at what makes these cupro fabrics stand out.
Note: Bemberg® is the trademark of Asahi Kasei Corporation for cupro, a regenerated cellulose fiber made from cotton linter, which is normally unused in the cotton spinning process.

42265 – Cupro/Cotton Broad Washer
This fabric blends cupro and cotton into a lightweight broadcloth, then enhances it with washer processing for added texture and drape.
The washer finish gives the fabric a soft, natural crinkle and a casual, yet elevated look. It’s breathable, has a flowing hand, and is suitable for both outer and lining applications—especially in layered designs.
41256 – 100% Cupro Fibril Twill
Among this lineup, 41256 stands out as the most elegant and luxurious option.
Made from 100% cupro and treated with a delicate fibrillation (peach skin finish), this twill offers a silk-like smoothness with a subtle matte finish. The fine twill texture combined with a slight transparency makes it perfect for sophisticated, lightweight garments.
Its graceful drape and understated sheen make it ideal for blouses, skirts, and dresses where a touch of refined softness is essential.
42505 – Twill Washer
This is a soft twill material with added washer processing to create dimensional texture and a relaxed appearance.
The washer finish gives it a natural crinkle and softness, perfect for casual-chic looks. With a balanced mix of cupro’s fluidity and cotton’s natural touch, it’s a versatile choice for laid-back, yet stylish pieces.
41261 – Cupro/Cotton Misty Twill
If you’re looking for a slightly more structured feel with a touch of sophistication, the Cupro/Cotton Misty Twill might just be what you need.
This fabric blends cupro and cotton in a twill weave, resulting in a softly lustrous surface with a subtle misty finish. The visual depth created by this surface treatment offers a slightly vintage and subdued appearance, making it a great choice for transitional pieces or minimalist designs.
Although it’s not washable like some of the other cupro blends introduced above, this fabric still maintains eco-friendly properties and a refined drape that’s ideal for dresses, blouses, and light jackets.
