What is Kasai?
Founded in 1967, this Osaka-based manufacturer primarily designs, manufactures, and sells tapes. The company originally started out as a wholesaler of sewing thread, but seven years later, it launched a tape brand called “QUEEN ACE,” which is now a well-known brand name.
The brand name “QUEEN ACE” was chosen with the meaning of “QUESTION and ANSWER” (responding to customer requests) and the desire to forge ahead with development through trial and error (R&D?)… What a great brand name.
Kasai [ QUEEN ACE ]’s Strengths
QUEEN ACE’s main/popular product is the thick nylon tape. Mainly for bags and belts.
Compared to ribbons or elastic bands, Queen Ace’s tapes are slightly thicker, and most products are between about 0.8mm and 2.5mm thick.
Introducing the characteristics of each material and recommended products
NYLON
<Advantages>
・Kasai often have raw fabric, making it easier to piece-dye.
・It has good color fastness and can be dyed any color to a certain extent.
・Because filament yarn is common, it is easy to produce a thin tape even at high density.
(* Filament yarn is a type of yarn made by twisting together continuous long fibers, and is characterized by its luster, thinness, and strength.)
<Disadvantages>
・Due to the characteristics of the fiber, the surface is flat, making it unsuitable for after processing. (printing)
・Although piece dyeing makes it possible to dye the fabric each time, there is a fair amount of variation between lots and some are prone to becoming stiff.
POLYESTER
<Advantages>
・Good for sports
・Because woolly yarn is used, tapes tend to have a matte look.
・It is thermoplastic and easy to post-process (print, pleat, emboss logo, etc.).
・Compared to nylon, many have a softer finish.
<Disadvantages>
・Not suitable for piece dyeing as it is prone to wrinkles and unevenness.
・It is not compatible with fabrics such as leather and PVC and may cause color transfer.

<Advantages>
・Suitable for casual wear
・Creates a warm texture
・High dye reproducibility and fastness, allowing for vivid color reproduction. Many colors in stock.
<Disadvantages>
・Easy to pill.
・It tends to give a casual impression, so it is not suitable for high-end products.
